Today we have decided to breakdown dog s*** down for you.
Yes you are reading right!! Our Dogs s*** can tell us a lot about out our pets health.
Ever been to the vets and the first question asked, “ is he/she eating well?” “are bowel movements normal?” it is ever so common for me. Of course I have to admit my vet doesn’t use the word bowel, yes she is straight up forward! So checking dog poop is something totally routine and normal for me, and should be to all pet owners.
Your pets pooh can tell to you so much , I used to ask is there one pooh that fits all! NO! There isn’t as each dogs life-style, eating habits are different.
Let us start off with analyzing the different types of pooh.
Normal pooh
Usually it should a medium brownish color, a little chalky in texture, which is mostly seen in raw fed dogs. Dry but not too hard, also healthy pooh shouldn’t have s foul smell that will cause you to gag.
Yes pooh should not be that smelly.
Green pooh
Green! YUCK. This can sometimes mean your dog is detoxing, or our dog has eaten a lot of grass that wasn’t fully digested in the Gut. If this goes on for a number of days consult your vet as green pooh is linked to poisoning form certain parasites.
Black pooh
Black means blood, why is it darker cause it is not near the lower digestion organs, meaning that it stays in the body longer. This can mean that it is coming from stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding. Always consult your vet!
Orange pooh
Orange pooh could indicate possible liver abnormality, as the liver is responsible for excreting bile which causes changed to the color of the poop.if your dog has consistent orange pooh you must consult your vet.
Red/bloody pooh
This can be scary and sometimes can be very serious. Having blood in your dogs pooh is usually caused by the intestine or anus. There can be numerous reasons, straining, bleeding in the GI. Sometimes It is even caused by parasites such as giardiasis and coccidiosis. If blood in stool persists over a number of days, best options would be to consult your vet.
Last but not least!!!
Diarrhea
Im sure you have all had those nights with waking up by the smelly stench !! I know I have and not once or twice but several times. You know those very water stools that you can no longer pick up with your poop bags, yes that’s the type of s*** I am talking about. Most common reasons are known to be irritable bowl disease, change of food , allergy, parasites. Diarrhea in dogs can occur suddenly and last as long as a day or two up to a few weeks or months.
